Free Meals, Tours, and Trip Planning

There is nothing to do in Brig on a Sunday. Literally nothing. Maddie, Colby, and I had to go to the store to get some things like shampoo, Q-tips, and breakfast foods...but the only place that has anything open is the train station, which luckily is very close to our residence halls.

Today pretty much consisted of the following: free lunch, finding a store, tour of Brig, info session about our residence hall, free dinner, the beginning of planning our weekend adventures, and skyping Josh.

The tour of Brig was nice because we got to see where lots of shops, restaurants, and bars are. Hopefully soon we'll become more acquainted with the surrounding area, because right now I'd bet money that I would get lost. Also something that is rather odd is that my orientation of what direction I'm facing is very off. I always feel like I am facing north when really I'm facing south.

This is what I get to wake up to every morning!

On the tour we briefly walked through this castle that's in the middle of town. We'll probably explore more later.

Maddie, Tyler, Colby, and I are trying to spend some time in the lobby so that we can maybe get to know people better, but we still seem like extreme outsiders. This is supposed to be an English speaking school, and English is highly encouraged, but it feels as though people who speak different languages just stick together. We definitely heard "Americanas"in conversation from a couple different groups.

And everyone here smokes cigarettes. Seriously, all the students smoke. It's so weird, and I'm not used to people being allowed to stand directly outside the door. I keep wanting to say "25 feet away" to people, but I can't. Lesson 2: EVERYONE smokes in Europe.
