Swiss Culture First Hand

This past week and weekend was the traditional Carnivale that took place throughout Switzerland and Italy. Possibly in other countries too, but I'm not really sure. To me, Carnivale is basically a mix of Mardi Gras, Halloween, and Oktoberfest. It's a week long celebration, with the biggest nights being Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Tons of people dress up in crazy costumes, people throw confetti, there are small marching bands everywhere, a ton of people emerge from their homes, and lots of people are drinking.

I decided to only go out on Saturday night, I really just wanted to experience the cultural aspect of it all, not drink a ton. Plus this was my last weekend to kick back and relax until I come home (!!!!), and I needed to get a lot of work done.

The whole thing was really neat! It felt the most like Halloween because everyone was in costumes. There were all of these different tents set up that people could hop from one to another, and they all had different themes: oldies, AC/DC, hip-hop, latin, etc. There were so many people that it was hard to move at times. We stayed in the AC/DC tent for the most part, it was definitely my favorite tent, we were rocking out! It was a blast.

We convinced Joey to wear my spankies out as a part of his costume. I think he might have enjoyed it a little too much.

Lots of lines everywhere. Many fun costumes!

I loved the bands that would play, but it made me miss Pullman! At the same time I was at Carnivale, the Cougs were playing their last game of the regular season.

The streets were filled with tents, people, and decorations.

My favorite costumes of the night: MINIONS FROM DESPICABLE ME!!!!

Naturally, I had to get a picture with some of the minions.

Maddie and I with our masks from Venice.

Kenny, Dave, Colby, and Will rocking out in the AC/DC tent.

The bar Skala was filled to the brim with people. It was quite difficult to get in and out of, and people were quite rude.
