Living Life Abroad: An Internship I Want More Than Anything

I'm so excited about this right now. It's really difficult to contain myself!

I just applied for a summer internship with TOMS Shoes as the Special Projects Intern. The position is basically event planning for TOMS Shoes and the One for One movement. The internship is from June 9th to August 19th in Santa Monica, CA at the TOMS Headquarters.

This internship would seriously be the most rewarding experience of my life. Not only would I be doing the think I love most, event planning, but I would be working with a company that has inspired me more than anything else, TOMS Shoes.

It's so hard to explain the giddiness that is contained inside me at this moment. I would give anything to work for TOMS! The whole concept of the company and the One for One movement give me so much hope and empower me to help make changes in the world.

Without being affiliated with TOMS I've taken it upon myself to spread the One for One movement throughout everyone with in my reach. Last year I brought the One Day Without Shoes event to the WSU campus single-handledly. I was so passionate about the movement, I didn't care what it took or even if I had to do it alone, I was going to get the message across. The message that millions of children all over the world have to live life everyday without shoes, fearing for their health and wellbeing. No one should have to live with that fear. And TOMS is changing that fear into hope for a better life with every pair of shoes they give.

I stood in 40mph winds that were as low as 35 degrees fahrenheit during a hail storm last year. But I didn't care. The passion that came over me and the joy I received from spreading the One for One movement made it all worth it. This year I'm abroad in Switzerland, but I'm still planning One Day Without Shoe events at WSU with students that were moved by my efforts last year. I'm so happy that I will be back to Washington and able to go to WSU for ODWS again. Please join the world on April 5th and go barefoot for as long as you can. I'm going to be barefoot for 24 hours again.

I get so excited when I talk to people about TOMS, when I share the One for One movement. Something inside me lights up and I just can't stop sharing the joy that it brings me and the hope that I'm trying to spread. There are still so many people out there they have no idea what TOMS Shoes is and I want to help spread the movement.

I really hope I get this internship. I know I said I didn't want to be to far from home this summer, but this internship is worth it. I know that everyday that I would be going to work I would be so happy to be there, I'd be so passionate about working there. I hope through my cover letter and essays they can see how passionate I am about TOMS and how great of an asset I would be for the company.
